The University of Nebraska Testing Ag Performance Solutions program was created by researchers and extension specialists and educators at the University of Nebraska— Lincoln. The program advances agricultural management skills and knowledge through its competition. UNL-TAPS serves as a growing-season-long farming contest and a research framework to uncover how management decisions have the power to drive profitability and input-use efficiency.
This interactive program is centered around real-world farm management competitions where innovation is the key focus. Participants, including UNL scientists, extension professionals, producers, industry leaders, agriculture students, and government officials, compete to showcase their skills. The UNL-TAPS competition awards those who are able to achieve the "most profitable," "most input-use efficient," and "highest grain yield" outcomes.
With a low-risk environment, participants in the competition can experiment with a wide variety of cutting-edge technology to enhance their management and decision-making skills. The technology includes satellite and drone imagery, soil moisture and plant sensors, and data from local weather stations. These tools and efficient technology provide valuable insights that allow participants to make informed choices and improve their agricultural practices. With the conclusion of the season, participants gain access to a comprehensive dataset that offers valuable insights to refine their practices.
