What is your position at the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center?
I am a beef technician in the beef unit at the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center.
What drew you to the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center?
I was looking for a job in the North Platte area, and the opening was shared with me. After reading the job description, I decided it was right up my alley with the opportunity to work with and around livestock.
What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?
I like that while we can teach people about livestock, we are also learning so much about the cattle ourselves at the same time through the research done here.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
At work, my greatest achievement is being able to do a variety of things, including learning how to feed cattle with the equipment here, haying, doing minor electrical work, and some mechanizing on our equipment. I am still not a professional in electrical or mechanical work, but I still try my best, and that is a win in my book.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I am originally from North Dakota, where my family and I have a cow/calf operation of about 300 red and black angus cattle. I moved down to North Platte in January with my cat, Millie.
What is your life like outside of work?
At home, I have a garden I enjoy taking care of and have been canning a lot of produce from it. I hang out with my cat and dog around the house and sometimes go hang out with friends.
