What is your position at the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center?
I am a research technician in the Cropping Systems Lab at the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center. My work involves supporting research projects across multiple crops, including corn, soybean, sorghum, canola, peas, sunflower, wheat, and cover crops. My responsibilities include planting, field management, data collection, sampling, harvesting, and conducting field research trials.
What drew you to the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center?
I was drawn to WCREEC because of the opportunity to work directly with agricultural research and learn from experienced researchers and extension specialists. Coming from Brazil with a background in Agronomy, I wanted to expand my knowledge of crop production systems and gain experience with different crops and management practices in the United States.
What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?
What I enjoy most is that there is always something new to learn. Working in an educational and research environment allows me to interact with researchers, students, producers, and industry professionals. I appreciate being part of projects that generate knowledge and help improve agricultural practices for farmers.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
One of my greatest achievements has been moving from Brazil to the United States and building a career in agricultural research. Adapting to a new country, language, and work environment while continuing my professional development has been both challenging and rewarding. I am also proud to be pursuing my master's degree while continuing to work in research.
What is something most people don't know about you?
Most people do not know that I enjoy running, roller skating, reading, and outdoor activities such as camping and paddle boarding. I also enjoy exploring new places and learning about different cultures through travel.
I believe in being a lifelong learner and constantly challenging myself to develop skills in different areas rather than focusing on just one.
What is your life like outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, going to the gym, running, attending church, exploring different cuisines, and staying connected with my family and friends in Brazil and other countries. I also enjoy traveling, photography, and taking advantage of opportunities to explore Nebraska and other parts of the United States.
