Dempster Christenson

What is your position at the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center?

I am a research technician under Dr. Rick Funston. I help perform and report research on cattle focused on improving reproductive efficiency.

What drew you to the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center?

I was looking for a professor that would help me complete my master’s degree and gain some experience working with animals because I did not have that background. I believed that the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center would help me in both of these areas.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

The aspect that I enjoy the most is the attention to detail and the forethought that goes into future studies.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I consider completing my master’s degree while helping my peers complete theirs to be my greatest achievement.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I competed on the junior national and national shooting team in rifle for 13 years. I was runner up for the Olympic team twice.

What is your life like outside of work?

I continue to practice rifle when I can, but I spend quite a bit of time cooking and playing video games when a range is unavailable. I also enjoy my work and spend time reading research articles that interest me, which some might consider work.
