The West Central Research, Extension and Education Center (WCREEC) welcomes Annalee Starr as a summer intern to its communications team.

A native of Stapleton, Nebraska, Starr leverages a strong background in agriculture and communications.

Starr grew up on her family’s operation, Cedar Top Ranch, where her passion for the beef industry and rural storytelling took root. She is a student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln studying Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Communication.

“Some of my earliest lessons came from riding through the pasture on my pony, studying grasses and the seasons of life," said Starr. “This internship is a chance to turn those moments into meaningful stories that share the heart of agriculture.”

In her role with WCREEC, Starr will support communications efforts by writing feature stories, designing graphics, and posting weekly social media content. She will also have opportunities to strengthen her photography skills and conduct interviews with producers, researchers, and local community members.

“I feel lucky to be working with West Central’s communications specialist Karlie Gerlach, and I am excited to grow my communications skills,” said Starr.

On campus, Starr serves as the ambassador for Block and Bridle and the social media chair for Sigma Alpha. She is also involved with the Ag Sack Lunch Program which educates youth across Nebraska about where their food comes from.
