The University of Nebraska- Lincoln's West Central Research, Extension and Education Center (WCREEC) is a research and extension facility of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The center serves as a site for field-based research and extension with faculty, technicians, and graduate students from eight IANR departments.  

Reach across western Nebraska

The West Central Research, Extension and Education Center lies on approximately 1,800 acres. Pasture land claims 1,100 of these acres and the remaining are utilized in dryland and irrigated cropping systems. 

The Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory is in the heart of the Nebraska Sandhills on 12,800 acres and is part of West Central. Additionally, the West Central Water Resources Laboratory near Brule, Nebraska holds its ties to the center with its 1,280 acres of irrigated and dryland cropping systems. The size and diversity of West Central allows for many opportunities to reach those in western Nebraska with integrated systems research and extension programming. 

Research-based Education

The West Central Research, Extension and Education Center delivers research-based education and information to Nebraskans throughout the state. Extension specialists and educators are committed to excellence by conducting educational programs customized to meet the needs of Nebraskans. These educational programs, delivered through a variety of methods, are offered through federal, state and county partnership arrangements. 

The objective of the research center is to provide research-based information and other educational resources to the counties in the West Central District and beyond. As part of the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the center is a front door to the University for those that it serves in west central Nebraska.
