
Jerry Volesky, Professor and Range and Forage Specialist
Jerry Volesky is a Professor and Range and Forage Specialist with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln West Central Research, Extension and Education Center located in North Platte. He is originally from North Dakota and got his degrees from Dickinson State University, North Dakota State University and South Dakota State University. Jerry started his career with UNL in 1995. Prior to coming to Noeth Platte, he worked for USDA-ARS in Mile City, MT and El Reno, OK for seven years. His research has focused on grazing management and rangeland ecology in the Sandhills with projects at both the Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory and Barta Brothers Ranch. This work was done on both upland range and subirrigated meadows. At North Platte, there were also projects using irrigated perennial and annual forages. Jerry’s Extension responsibilities include development and delivery of range and forage management programming for both adult and youth clientele in Nebraska. He has been an instructor for the Ranch Practicum for 25 years. Other programs include the Range Short Course, Youth Range Camp and Youth Range Judging.
Sam Feine, Rangeland Management Intern
Sam Feine is the Rangeland Management Intern at the PREEC in Scottsbluff, while also assisting at GSL this summer.
She is from Southeast MN, where she and her family run a cow-calf operation and grow corn and soybeans. She is currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin River Falls, pursuing a major in Agricultural Studies with minors in Animal Science and Crop Science. She is set to graduate this coming December.
She has greatly valued her experience at GSL, from the educational opportunities provided to the welcoming team members who shared their knowledge and insights.
