Calendar and Sites

The first, two-day session will be in North Platte, NE. The remaining one-day sessions are sheduled in southwest and south central Nebraska. Participants must select one of the January and one of the April meeting locations that they would prefer to attend.

Attendance at all sessions is important because of the sequential nature of the curriculum. Participants must attend all three sessions (four days) to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Session 1: Monday and Tuesday, November 19 and 20, 2007 - North Platte

Topics include: Integrating Forage Resources and Livestock Nutrient Needs, Body Condition Score, Heifer Management, Cull Cow Options, Economics of Winter Management Systems, Marketing Update, Planning for Next Year's Grazing, and Discussion of Management Factors When Grazing Cornstalks.

Session 2: Wednesday, January 23, 2008 - Lexington, or Thursday, January 24, 2008 - Grant

Topics include: Nutrient Value of Cornstalks, Diet Formulation for Calving Season, Cull Cow Update, Body Condition Scoring, Irrigated Grass Establishment and Management, Using Winter Annuals in a Grazing System and Challenges and Opportunities of Ethanol Co-products.

Session 3: Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - Kearney, or Thursday, April 3, 2008 - Ogallala

Topics include: Strategies for Year-Round Grazing, Economics of Establishing Irrigated Grass, Using Warm-Season Annuals in a Grazing System, Alternative Forages in a Grazing System, Reproductive Management and Cull Cow Update.
